I don’t even know where to begin about my week. It has been a mad house.
Let me start with last Friday when they pulled the raccoon out of our chimney. That’s right a raccoon. Not just any raccoon but a huge pregnant raccoon.
For the past few months we have heard a sound that was scratching and moving in our chimney. I suspected a raccoon but wasn’t sure. Then the noise started sounded aggressive and we called the landlord again about it. I was afraid the thing would get in our house. One night I hear the thing getting aggressive and I take a flashlight and look up. There was a little crack in the flue and there was an eyeball looking at me through it. I recognized right away it was a raccoon. We called the landlord and said we need to get this thing out now we have small children here.
Friday the animal control guys showed up to try to get the raccoon out of the chimney. It took the animal control guys two hours to get the thing out. They kept throwing down a log on a rope to push the raccoon up but the thing kept falling back down. I had to go pick up my son and right when I was about to leave the guy on the roof says do I want to watch and sure enough he pulled the raccoon out and put it in a cage. It was huge. In the process of removing the raccoon they broke our flue and now we have no protection there. I have a sheet blocking the fireplace. This is only the beginning.
Sunday, my Hubby left for San Diego on a business trip for three nights and four days. We have always watched the Super Bowl together and it was really a bummer to watch it by myself. Poor Hubby by the time he got settled in San Diego he only got to watch the 4th quarter and he had been looking forward to the Bears going to the Super Bowl since 1986. He is a big Bears fan.
Monday while Hubby was away our heat downstairs went out about 11:00am. We have two furnaces one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I text Hubby and asked him what I should do and so I called the landlord. We had to be on the guy all day about it. The temp dropped to 54 degrees downstairs and it was the coldest day for us with negative temps and negative wind chills. The boys and I sat on the couch with blankets and watched TV. The guy did not come to our house until 9:30pm to fix it and it turned out to be the thermostat. When the guy told the landlord what it was they were in the basement and I was at the top of the stairs out of view, the guy tells him how much it would be to replace it with installation fee and my landlord hesitated way to long. I knew the guy was cheap but didn’t know he was that cheap. I was getting ready to say something when he tells the guy to go ahead and replace it.
Meanwhile our smoke detector goes off through out the day for no reason and come to find out it is an old one that uses 120v electricity not batteries. The landlord somehow gets it to stop for awhile but it did go off once today.
I was a crying emotional wreck on Monday.
Tuesday we slide by without any trouble.
Wednesday Hubby’s 6:30am flight was cancelled and ended up having to fly to a San Jose then to Chicago. We drove and picked him up and did not get back until 5:30pm when we stopped for dinner and then Little Cubby and I were dropped off at home so Hubby and Big Cubby could go to Daddy night at Big Cubby’s preschool.
It seems to never fail when Hubby goes on a long trip something happens. With my emotional state right now I don’t know how much more I can take.
This afternoon is my doctor’s appointment and I am hoping the baby will cooperate and we will be able to find out if we are having a boy or a girl. Don’t know what this means but I finally had a dream about the baby and it was a girl. I don’t know if I should take much stock in that but we will see. At this point, I don’t care what it is just as long as we have a healthy baby.
More later!
